First of all, the concept of prayer is not only special
and peculiar to the Christian faith, but it seems that all of the
religions of the world in one way or the other esteem prayer as very important.
Deep within the spirit of every human being is the desire to
communicate with the spirit world. Man has always believed that there is
some unseen power within the universe, whether it be God or what is brought forth in one‘s beliefs.
I would also like to point out that the prayer methodologies of these
various faiths go to some extremes. This is also seen in the Bible, for example,
In the book of 1 Kings, where we see that there were 450 prophets of Baal marking their bodies when it appeared that there was a delay in the answer, in their prayers to their gods. What they did not understand is that their gods are blind and cannot see all their self inflicted pains. They are also deaf and cannot hear their whaling, and they cannot speak as they have no voice nor mouth to speak to their worshippers with, most of them were just symbols or idols of a sinners dreams with hope by their believer’s that they could somehow cleanse them through self sacrifice. But we as Christians serve a LIVING GOD who is always ready to hear our cries and our needs when we come to Him in prayer. There is no self afflictions because God’s Son, Jesus already bore those afflictions for us!

Prayer is central and pivotal to the Christian. It is the nucleus of our faith. Through prayer, we commune with God on a day to day and moment by moment basis.

What then is prayer? Prayer is a dialogue with God in the name of Jesus. It is our two way free flow communication with God and when we seal it, it is done in His Son’s name Jesus. Prayer is communicating with God, in the same way that we communicate with each other in a clear and understandable manner. We are not meant to go to God to prove to Him that we know big words or are eloquent in our speaking to Him. Nor do we come to God in fear or timidity, but we come to Him as humble servants who are in the need to commune with Him. Knowing in faith that He hears us and is ready to answer us whenever we pray to Him according to His will for us as expressed in His Word!

Prayer is one of our Core spiritual responsibilities which has potential and capability to increase the state of our walk with God. The degree to which we are spiritually elevated and energized is brought through in the frequency of our prayers and the continuance of our faith.
