First of all, the concept of prayer is not only special and peculiar to the Christian faith, but it seems that all of the religions of the world in one way or the other esteem prayer as very important. Deep within the spirit of every human being is the desire to communicate with the spirit world. Man has always believed that there is some unseen power within the universe, whether it be God or what is brought forth in one‘s beliefs. I would also like to point out that the prayer methodologies of these various faiths go to some extremes. This is also seen in the Bible, for example, In the book of 1 Kings, where we see that there were 450 prophets of Baal marking their bodies when it appeared that there was a delay in the answer, in their prayers to their gods. What they did not understand is that their gods are blind and cannot see all their self inflicted pains.
